LESSON #3

Make a naturalistic torso and arms with simple patterns and combine them with the elements from the previous lessons to to make a full figure

In this lesson, we will create a naturalistic clay torso and arms, using slabs, with the support of simple templates (offered in 2 sizes) that will help generate the primary shapes we will develop with further modeling. I will demonstrate how to attach the torso to the skirt shape to create a whole body and arms and hands to the torso as well as review attaching the neck and head.

All levels welcome!

Please note:

  • This will be a hybrid experience with a live demo component through Zoom combined with pre-recorded material and additional written information.

  • These lessons build on one another! Only the first lesson on the head is free standing. If you haven’t done so already, you can acquire the first two lessons by clicking on the links below or visiting cristinacordova.teachable.com

  • The live component to this lesson along with all the additional content for lesson #3 will be recorded and available for 4 weeks after the event. With the first two lessons, the material does not expire.

  • Take notes, prioritize this learning opportunity, watch as many times as you want, and e-mail me with any questions!

LESSON #2

Make a clay torso from a pattern to fit different head sizes and learn how to make hands

In this lesson we will create a clay torso, using slabs, with the support of a simple template (offered in 3 sizes) that will help to generate the primary shape we will develop with further modeling. I will demonstrate how to attach a neck and head and explore ways to animate a composition.

I will then show you my approach to making hands of any size.

All levels welcome!

LESSON #1

Make a head in clay and capture the sculpted information in a bisque mold to generate multiples

In this lesson we will create a small clay head (about 4"h), using slabs, with the support of a simple template that will help to generate the primary shape we will develop with further modeling. We will touch on bone structure, features and cleaning strategies. I will then show you how to create a simple bisque mold to capture information and expedite the creation of multiples.

Although you are welcome to follow with me this time is best used to focus on the demo, take good notes and clarify questions. The session will be recorded and sent to all students for future reference. All you need is a computer with Zoom.

In order to recreate the process at home you will need clay, a rolling pin, and basic modelling tools. You will receive a pdf with a breakdown of specific materials and zoom link leading up to the class.

All levels welcome!
